The United States Air Force is the aerial and space warfare service branch of the Armed Forces. The Navy was instrumental in the North’s triumph over the South during the Civil War by blockading rivers and in World War II while battling in Japan. Today, there are more than 329,000 active duty members of the Navy and more than 100,000 in reserves.
